Cheques

Track cheques you have received, mark them cleared into an account, or mark them bounced.

Updated

When you take a payment by cheque, the money is not really yours until the cheque clears at the bank. The Cheques screen keeps track of every cheque so it counts only once — when it actually clears.

The screen has two lists:

  • Open — cheques that have not cleared yet. These do not count in any account balance. The heading shows how many are pending and their total.
  • Closed — cheques that have cleared or bounced.

Each cheque shows its number, date, the party, the linked bill, and a status tag: Open, Cleared, or Bounced.

Mark a cheque cleared

When the money reaches your bank:

  1. On the Open cheque, open its menu and choose Mark cleared.
  2. In Clear cheque, pick the Deposit to account (the one the money landed in). Yojika suggests the account chosen when the payment was recorded.
  3. Click Clear cheque.

The cheque moves to Closed, and its amount is now added to that account’s balance. A cleared cheque shows “Deposited to” its account.

Mark a cheque bounced

If the bank returns a cheque:

  1. Open the cheque’s menu and choose Mark bounced.
  2. Confirm.

Bouncing puts the amount back on the invoice as still due. If the cheque had already cleared, the amount is also removed from the deposit account. The cheque stays in the list as Bounced. This cannot be undone.
